Mateo, a gentle one-year-old cat taken in by Hyde Park Cats, suddenly began having trouble breathing. His diaphragm had ruptured (diaphragmatic hernia), which caused the organs in his abdominal cavity to travel to his chest, making it hard for him to breathe. This condition can be repaired with surgery that costs $7,000 and has a very good prognosis, but Mateo needs the operation soon to survive.
